IRS Rules And Laws Change For The 2024 Tax Season

The 2024 tax season brings several significant changes that taxpayers need to be aware of. Among the most notable changes are higher standard deduction amounts, expanded income tax brackets, and changes to business deductions. The IRS has increased the standard deduction amounts for all filing statuses, resulting in lower taxes for many taxpayers. For example, the standard deduction for married couples filing jointly for tax year 2024 rises to $29,200, an increase of $1,500 from tax year 2023. Additionally, the income tax brackets have been adjusted, which means that taxpayers can expect to see a slightly smaller tax bill. For instance, a single taxpayer with taxable income of $44,000 for 2023 will be taxed at a marginal tax rate of 12%, compared to a top rate of 22% in 2022.
